What advantages are there to using Peat-Free compost?

So far in England, more than 90% of the peat bogs have been destroyed due to the extraction of peat for products such as peat-based compost.

Peat bogs are very sensitive habitats, providing a home for a large variety of life forms. By continuing to use dried peat, many compost and soil conditioning product manufacturers are having devastating effects on the remaining bogs and so on the environment itself.

Peat allows the products in which it is used to enrich treated soils and increase their capacity to retain moisture. Mr Crapper’s compost provides exactly the same benefits, without having a detrimental effect on the environment.

What other products do we produce?

We produce high quality topsoil which can be supplied as a stand alone product, however it works very well in a blend with our compost which we can also supply on request. This mix provides a high quality growing medium.

About Us

Mr Crapper’s Potting Shed Peat-Free Compost is the result of almost 70 years potting shed ‘research and development’. It was the current Mr Crapper’s grand-father who first started making his own compost, to help him to grow bigger and stronger plants. Our compost is made from fully recycled green materials, creating a product high in vital nutrients, without the need to add peat.
